Microstructure of Rheocast

We analyzed the structure of semi-solid aluminum products manufactured by Comptech.
We have succeeded in achieving fine, uniform variations in the semi-solid aluminum structure. The Al-Fe compounds only grow to a few microns, minimizing their impact on elongation.

In a joint research project with UBE Machinery Co., Ltd., we cut and analyzed the cross section of a large aluminum heat sink (105mm high x 1mm thick).

Despite using a AlSi7 alloy with no refiners and 100% recycled materials, the crystal structure is fine and uniformly filled, with no evidence of outflow or segregation of eutectic Si.

This is likely to solve one of the current issues with Gigacast, which is the reduction in impact absorption energy due to insufficient ductility, and is attracting attention from various companies.

Why not try supplementing your Rheocast with the ductility you desire through Gigacast prototyping?
